| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An |
2 | act relating to the public school system, including certain |
3 | provisions applicable as well to private and parochial |
4 | schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the |
5 | laws relating thereto," in pupils and attendance, further |
6 | providing for uniforms and prohibited attire. |
7 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
8 | hereby enacts as follows: |
9 | Section 1. Section 1317.3 of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L. |
10 | 30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added April |
11 | 27, 1998 (P.L.270, No.46), is amended to read: |
12 | Section 1317.3. Uniforms and Prohibited Attire.--[The] (a) |
13 | Subject to the provisions in subsection (b), the board of |
14 | directors in any school entity may impose limitations on dress |
15 | and may require pupils to wear standard dress or uniforms. Dress |
16 | policies may be applicable throughout the school entity or may |
17 | be applicable to one or more school buildings within the school |
18 | entity. |
19 | (b) Notwithstanding the provisions in subsection (a), the |
20 | board of public education in a school district of the first |

1 | class shall adopt a policy to prohibit pupils from wearing |
2 | hooded shirts, hats and any other attire that conceal, obscure |
3 | or disguise the face of the person wearing the attire. |
4 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
