AN ACT

Designating the bridgereconstructed bridge spanning Shawnee Run

on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia, Lancaster

County, as the Herbert "Cubby" Spiese Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Herbert "Cubby" Spiese Bridge.

7

(a)  Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as

follows:

(1)  Herbert "Cubby" Spiese, a lifelong resident of

10

Columbia Borough, devoted much time and effort over several

11

years to persuading the Department of Transportation and his

12

State representatives that the deteriorating bridge spanning

13

Shawnee Run on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia

14

needed to be reconstructed. In early 2006, Spiese's

15

persistence was rewarded when reconstruction of the bridge

16

was completed.

(2)  On August 11, 2008, Columbia Borough Council adopted

18

a resolution requesting that the Department of Transportation

name the bridge in honor of Mr. Spiese, who still resides in

2

Columbia, but is in poor health.

(a)(B)  Designation.--The bridgereconstructed bridge spanning

Shawnee Run on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia,

5

Lancaster County, is designated as the Herbert "Cubby" Spiese

6

Bridge.

7

(b)(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect

8

and maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge

9

to traffic in both directions.

Section 2.  Effective date.

11

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
