| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring Robert W. Bogle for his numerous achievements and for |
2 | his dedication and commitment to the Philadelphia region. |
3 | WHEREAS, Robert W. Bogle is currently the president and chief |
4 | executive officer of The Philadelphia Tribune, the nation's |
5 | oldest and the Greater Philadelphia region's largest newspaper |
6 | that is a major voice for the African-American community, a |
7 | position he has held since 1989; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Tribune is currently celebrating |
9 | its 125th anniversary; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In addition to serving as the president and chief |
11 | executive officer, Mr. Bogle previously served as advertising |
12 | director, director of marketing and executive vice |
13 | president/treasurer for The Philadelphia Tribune; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bogle also served as president of the National |

1 | Newspaper Publishers Association, a trade association |
2 | encompassing 205 African-American newspapers across this nation, |
3 | from 1991 through 1995; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Tribune was honored at least five |
5 | times under Mr. Bogle's leadership by the National Newspaper |
6 | Publishers Association with the Russwurm Award, the highest |
7 | honor for "Best Newspaper in America"; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bogle is a founding member and president of the |
9 | African American News and Information Consortium, a group of |
10 | leading newspapers in some of the largest markets in this |
11 | nation; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bogle is also chairman of The Hospitals and |
13 | Higher Education Facilities Authority of Philadelphia, a |
14 | commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority and chairman |
15 | of the Council of Trustees at Cheyney University; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bogle also serves on the boards of the Greater |
17 | Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, The Mann Center for the |
18 | Performing Arts, the Zoological Society of Philadelphia and the |
19 | African American Chamber of Commerce; and |
20 | WHEREAS, Recently, Mr. Bogle has been affiliated with the |
21 | boards for the Philadelphia Museum of Art Corporate Partners |
22 | Program, the Pennsylvania Newspapers Association Foundation, the |
23 | Academy of Vocal Arts, Temple University Health System, the |
24 | Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, the |
25 | Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Historical |
26 | Society of Pennsylvania; and |
27 | WHEREAS, President George W. Bush appointed Mr. Bogle to |
28 | serve as a member of the National Museum of African American |
29 | History and Culture Commission; and |
30 | WHEREAS, Mr. Bogle continues to polish his newspaper |

1 | experience and expertise by participating in annual workshops in |
2 | the subject areas of the Internet, finance, editorial content |
3 | and advertising; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication shown by Mr. Bogle |
5 | serves as inspiration for others to follow his example and |
6 | become actively involved in their own communities; therefore be |
7 | it |
8 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Robert W. |
9 | Bogle for his many accomplishments and for his admirable |
10 | dedication to the Philadelphia region. |
