A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of April 25 through 29, 2011, as "Insurance
Fraud Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, All Pennsylvanians and Pennsylvania businesses rely
upon insurance for protection from financial harm when they are
faced with unexpected injury, sickness, death or theft or damage
of property; and
WHEREAS, The importance of this protection has long been
recognized by the General Assembly in enactment of laws
regulating this Commonwealth's $79 billion per year insurance
marketplace and creating safeguards against insurance fraud; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 7% to 10% of all property and casualty
insurance claims and 1% to 3% of all life and health insurance
claims in this Commonwealth are reported to be fraudulent; and
WHEREAS, Insurance fraud is a felony crime that needlessly

increases insurance losses and the premiums paid by all
Pennsylvanians; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention
Authority and the Pennsylvania chapters of the International
Association of Special Investigation Units will convene a
Pennsylvania 2011 Insurance Fraud Conference in Hershey,
Pennsylvania, on April 25, 2011, to advance Commonwealth efforts
in the combating of insurance fraud and to increase public
awareness of insurance fraud; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of April 25 through 29, 2011, as "Insurance Fraud Awareness
Week" in Pennsylvania to foster cooperation in fighting
insurance fraud and to increase consumer awareness of the
financial harms of insurance fraud.
