A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the "2011 Days of Remembrance," May 1 through 7,
2011, and "Holocaust Remembrance Day," May 1, 2011, in
commemoration of the millions of innocent victims of Nazi
atrocities.
WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States established the
annual "Days of Remembrance" to preserve the legacy of Holocaust
victims, including European Jews, Gypsies, Poles, Soviet war
prisoners and persons with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum has
preserved their legacy and imparted it to future generations by
leading nationwide observances of the "Days of Remembrance"
since 1982; and

WHEREAS, "Holocaust Remembrance Day," also referred to as Yom
Hashoah, honors those persons who perished during Nazi-era
deportations and mass killings; and
WHEREAS, "Stories of Freedom: What You Do Matters" has been
designated as the theme this year to demonstrate the power and
responsibility of the individual in confronting injustice; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives urges reflection on the
experiences of Holocaust victims and what could have been done
to save them; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives acknowledges the
testimony of Holocaust survivors and liberators; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives further acknowledges
the lessons of courage, tolerance and individual integrity
against oppression, destruction and genocide; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
"2011 Days of Remembrance," May 1 through 7, 2011, and
"Holocaust Remembrance Day," May 1, 2011, in commemoration of
the millions of innocent victims of Nazi atrocities.
