INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 11, 2011
A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and expressing condolences upon the death of
Private First Class Brandon M. Styer, who paid the supreme
sacrifice on October 15, 2009, while serving his country in
Afghanistan.
WHEREAS, Private First Class Brandon M. Styer enlisted in the
United States Army during his senior year of high school; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer served as a combat engineer with the 569th
Mobility Augmentation Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, Fort
Carson, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer had previously served a tour of duty in

Iraq; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer and his comrades were patrolling in a
vehicle in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, on October 15, 2009,
when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive
device, wounding four soldiers; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer died from the grievous wounds he sustained
in the attack; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Jeffrey J. Snow described PFC
Styer as, "a friend to everyone in the platoon. He was a gifted
young man (who) had the courage of fortitude. He chose to serve
his country...He dedicated his life to the protection of
others"; and
WHEREAS, A 2008 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School, PFC
Styer enjoyed cars, animals, especially German shepherds, and
playing sports with his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer was a role model to his family and
friends, as well as to the students at Lancaster Christian
School, where his stepmother was a teacher's assistant; and
WHEREAS, PFC Styer is survived by his mother, Jill Myers,
wife of Scott Myers; his father, Terry Styer, husband of Diane
Styer; his stepfather, John Hall; his twin sister, Alyssa Styer;
sisters, Angela Bauza, wife of Gabriel Bauza, and Tracy Bowling,
wife of Rick Bowling; his maternal grandmother; his aunt; his
four nieces; and his nephew; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting to commend the patriotic and heroic
contributions that PFC Styer made, to be saddened by this brave
young soldier's death and to honor the supreme sacrifice he paid
on behalf of this nation and this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and express condolences upon the death of Private First Class
