A RESOLUTION

Commending Central High School in Philadelphia for being

2

recognized by the United States Department of Education as a

3

Blue Ribbon School.

4

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education conveyed

5

the Blue Ribbon School award on only one Pennsylvania high

6

school for the 2010-2011 school year, highlighting the

7

exclusivity of this achievement; and

8

WHEREAS, Central High School in Philadelphia received this

9

prestigious award, given to only 305 schools across the United

10

States and to only 14 in this Commonwealth; and

11

WHEREAS, The award honors public and private elementary,

12

middle and high schools for either high levels of student

13

achievement or for a narrowing of achievement gaps; and

14

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of school administrator Sheldon

Pavel and a dedicated faculty, Central High School was

2

recognized for high levels of student achievement; and

3

WHEREAS, The Department of Education's Blue Ribbon School

4

Program is part of the department's effort to identify and

5

disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching

6

practices; and

7

WHEREAS, Each year since 1982, the department has sought out

8

schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals

9

and levels of achievements, especially among disadvantaged

10

students; and

11

WHEREAS, This is the second time Central High School has been

12

recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, the first being for school

13

year 1986-1987; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend Central

15

High School in Philadelphia for being recognized by the United

16

States Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School.
