A RESOLUTION

Urging the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Highmark,

Inc. to publicly commit to open and continuous health care

3

access for Medicaid, Medicare and Children's Health Insurance

4

Program recipients.

WHEREAS, The continuity of health care services is vital for

6

the citizens of this Commonwealth; and

7

WHEREAS, Health care services should not be interrupted for

8

any citizen of this Commonwealth, especially children; and

9

WHEREAS, Medicaid, Medicare and Children’s Health Insurance

10

Program (CHIP) recipients need continued access to their current

11

providers and should never be caught in the middle of disputes

12

between providers and insurers; and

13

WHEREAS, The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)

14

and Highmark, Inc. have made statements about these vulnerable

15

groups not being affected regardless of the outcome of their

16

contractual issues; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Highmark, Inc. to

3

publicly commit to open and continued health care access for

4

Medicaid, Medicare and Children's Health Insurance Program

5

recipients; and be it further

6

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the

7

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Highmark, Inc. to

8

further commit to Medicaid, Medicare and Children's Health

9

Insurance Program recipients paying in-network rates for health

10

care.
