A RESOLUTION

  

1

Declaring the month of January 2012 as "Learn to Ski and

2

Snowboard Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's geography is the backdrop for outdoor

4

recreation; and

5

WHEREAS, Tens of thousands of winter enthusiasts migrate to

6

the Pennsylvania mountains every week to ski and snowboard on

7

trails that offer cruising comfort in a majestic setting or the

8

excitement of a pulse-pounding challenge on a downhill course;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, There are more than 23 ski resorts in all regions of

11

this State from the Endless Mountains to the Philadelphia

12

suburbs, central Pennsylvania from the Maryland to the New York

13

borders and throughout the Alleghenies; and

14

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania ski resorts have a significant

15

economic impact on the communities they are located in and the

Commonwealth as a whole; and

2

WHEREAS, Participating in a snow sport provides an

3

opportunity for exercise and friendship that will last a

4

lifetime; and

5

WHEREAS, Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month encourages children

6

and adults to learn by taking lessons from professional

7

instructors; and

8

WHEREAS, Ski and snowboard areas throughout the United States

9

offer free and reasonably priced turn-key lesson programs during

10

the month of January as part of this initiative; and

11

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, along with

12

33 other states, the SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the

13

Professional Ski Instructors of America-American Association of

14

Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI), National Ski Areas

15

Association (NSAA) and the National Ski Patrol have united to

16

offer an affordable Learn to Ski and Snowboard program that will

17

open the door to the wonderful world of skiing and snowboarding

18

for many winter enthusiasts throughout the entire season; and

19

WHEREAS, "Humans Were Never Meant to Hibernate" is the theme

20

of this year's national effort, meant to get children and adults

21

outside this winter for fun and exercise in the snow; and

22

WHEREAS, We appreciate and thank the dedicated individuals

23

who work tirelessly to uphold Pennsylvania's outdoor recreation

24

and help maintain strong winter tourism in Pennsylvania;

25

therefore be it

26

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the

27

month of January 2012 as "Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month" in

28

Pennsylvania; and be it further

29

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the

30

Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association, P.O. Box 27, White Haven, Pa
