A RESOLUTION

Commending the Chester County Food Bank for its ongoing effort

2

to feed the hungry of Chester County.

3

WHEREAS, The month of January is a month when food sources

4

are very depleted as a result of the magnitude of goodwill

5

donations and distributions that occur during the Thanksgiving

6

through Christmas holidays; and

7

WHEREAS, Food banks across this Commonwealth are,

8

nonetheless, continuing their vital work to keep food available

9

to Pennsylvanians who need it; and

10

WHEREAS, Lack of food contributes to slow learning in school,

11

worsens poor health issues in senior citizens, saps the

12

productivity of the working poor and costs Pennsylvania nearly

13

$3.25 billion a year; and

14

WHEREAS, The Chester County Food Bank provides food

15

distributions to 39,825 households daily, including 33,456

16

children and 70,369 adults, an increase of 30% over last year's

17

numbers; and

WHEREAS, The Chester County Food Bank distributes over one

2

million pounds of food each year to more than 65 sites,

3

including 33 food cupboards, feeding sites and shelters; and

4

WHEREAS, The Chester County Food Bank, like food banks across

5

this Commonwealth, depends on donations of nonperishable food

6

from corporate donors, community groups, churches, individuals

7

and partnership farms, as well as federally and State-purchased

8

food and seeks donations at Chester County Food Bank, 28 West

9

Market Street, West Chester PA 19382; and

10

WHEREAS, During the past six months, the Chester County Food

11

Bank has reported an increase of almost 40% in the demand for

12

food, and in some areas of the county the demand is now at 54%;

13

therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the

15

Chester County Food Bank for its ongoing effort to feed the

16

hungry of Chester County.
