AN ACT

Designating the bridge that carries State Route 601 over Barclay

Run in the Borough of Somerset, Somerset County, as the

Trooper Stephen R. Gyurke Memorial Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Trooper Stephen R. Gyurke Memorial Bridge.

(a)  Declaration.--The General Assembly declares that Trooper

8

Stephen R. Gyurke made the ultimate sacrifice for this

9

Commonwealth on August 24, 1958, when he died of injuries

10

suffered while performing his duties. Trooper Gyurke was

11

assigned to the Pennsylvania State Police Troop B-2 when on

12

August 21, 1958, he suffered severe injuries that would

13

eventually lead to his death during a traffic stop on the

14

Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County.

(b)  Designation.--The bridge that carries State Route 601

16

over Barclay Run in the Borough of Somerset, Somerset County, is

17

designated as the Trooper Stephen R. Gyurke Memorial Bridge.

(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall place and

19

maintain appropriate signs at both ends of the bridge designated

in subsection (b).

Section 2.  Effective date.

3

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
