SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 155 Session of 2007


        INTRODUCED BY KASUNIC, JULY 10, 2007

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JULY 10, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing with great sadness the supreme sacrifice of Private
     2     First Class Nils G. Thompson, who died August 4, 2005, from
     3     wounds inflicted by an enemy sniper while courageously
     4     serving our nation in Iraq.

     5     WHEREAS, Private First Class Nils G. Thompson died from
     6  wounds inflicted by an enemy sniper while Pfc. Thompson was on
     7  routine patrol in Mosul, Iraq, on August 4, 2005; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson paid the supreme sacrifice for his
     9  nation in Operation Iraqi Freedom one day after his 19th
    10  birthday; and
    11     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson had been in the Army since he turned
    12  18 in August 2004; and
    13     WHEREAS, An assigned member of C Company, 1st Battalion, 24th
    14  Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker
    15  Brigade Combat Team) based in Fort Lewis, Washington, Pfc.
    16  Thompson had been in Iraq for five months on his first
    17  deployment; and
    18     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson has been awarded the Purple Heart


     1  Medal and the Bronze Star Medal and is buried at Arlington
     2  National Cemetery; and
     3     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson is survived by his parents, Nils and
     4  Frances Thompson, his sister, Lily Thompson, and numerous
     5  friends; and
     6     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson had lived in Somerset County for 13
     7  years; and
     8     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson was a deeply devoted Christian who
     9  enjoyed reading and discussing the Bible with others; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pfc. Thompson will be remembered for serving our
    11  nation with honor, pride and loyalty; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Senate wishes to honor Pfc. Thompson
    13  posthumously for his courageous service to our nation; therefore
    14  be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize with great sadness the
    16  supreme sacrifice of Private First Class Nils G. Thompson, who
    17  died on August 4, 2005, from wounds inflicted by an enemy sniper
    18  while courageously serving our nation in Iraq.
