| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the week of September 13 through 19, 2009, as |
2 | "Assisted Living Week" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Nearly one million senior citizens and individuals |
4 | with disabilities receive care in 38,000 assisted living |
5 | residences nationwide; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The number of elderly and disabled citizens in this |
7 | Commonwealth is dramatically increasing; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Assisted living is a long-term care service that |
9 | fosters choice, dignity and autonomy for residents; and |
10 | WHEREAS, These services also enhance residents' emotional, |
11 | intellectual, physical, social and spiritual well-being so that |
12 | they can live as independently as possible with the highest |
13 | quality of life; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Through caregiving, staff members and volunteers |
15 | build close relationships with residents as if the resident was |
16 | a member of their family; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The theme of "National Assisted Living Week 2009," |
2 | "Traditions of the Heart," highlights the opportunity to bestow |
3 | on our residents a multitude of events and activities that show |
4 | them how much we care for and love them; therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of September 13 |
6 | through 19, 2009, as "Assisted Living Week" in Pennsylvania; and |
7 | be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That all citizens visit friends and loved ones who |
9 | reside at these facilities and learn more about assisted living |
10 | services and how they benefit our communities. |
