| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the month of October 2009 as "Agent Orange |
2 | Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was the longest conflict in American |
4 | history; and |
5 | WHEREAS, During the Vietnam War, American servicepersons |
6 | displayed heroic courage and determination under some of the |
7 | most difficult circumstances ever encountered in United States |
8 | military history; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Approximately 498,000 men and women from this |
10 | Commonwealth served during the Vietnam War era, an estimated |
11 | 172,000 of whom directly participated in the war; and |
12 | WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of |
13 | Veterans Affairs, approximately 20 million gallons of Agent |
14 | Orange and other herbicides were used during the Vietnam War; |
15 | and |
16 | WHEREAS, Thousands of Vietnam War veterans have died due to |

1 | the use of Agent Orange; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Thousands of veterans still suffer from cancer and |
3 | other health disorders caused by exposure to Agent Orange; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Veterans with health problems caused by Agent Orange |
5 | live with the knowledge that genetic damage resulting from their |
6 | exposure to Agent Orange may be handed down through generations; |
7 | therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2009 |
9 | as "Agent Orange Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania. |
