| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Welcoming home from its deployment to Iraq, the 2-112th Infantry |
2 | Battalion (Stryker), 56th Brigade (Stryker), 28th Infantry |
3 | Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. |
4 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th Infantry Battalion (Stryker), 56th |
5 | Brigade (Stryker), 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania |
6 | Army National Guard was deployed to Iraq for the past year to |
7 | participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The 56th Brigade (Stryker), to include the 2-112th |
9 | Infantry Battalion (Stryker), is the only reserve component |
10 | selected to be a Stryker unit; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Headquarters for the 2-112th Infantry Battalion |
12 | (Stryker) are located in Lewistown and its Company A is from |
13 | Huntingdon-Everett, Company B is from Altoona and Company C is |
14 | from Tyrone-Bellefonte; and |
15 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th deployed to Iraq with approximately 800 |
16 | soldiers; and |
17 | WHEREAS, While in Iraq, the battalion was based at Camp |
18 | Liberty; and |
19 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th was part of Stryker Task Force Paxton; |

2 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th was assigned an area of operations in |
3 | Abu Ghraib, a very hostile sector of Iraq; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th conducted continuous full spectrum |
5 | counterinsurgency operations from February 25, 2009, to August |
6 | 12, 2009, against Al-Qaeda and insurgent forces, helping to |
7 | quell the instability caused by enemy activity; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The 2-112th conducted active and successful time- |
9 | sensitive enemy targeting in the multidivisional and hotly |
10 | contested Baghdad region of Iraq; and |
11 | WHEREAS, In addition, the 2-112th conducted operations aimed |
12 | at improving the human situation, physical infrastructure, the |
13 | economic capacity of Iraq and access to education; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Throughout their deployment, the soldiers of the |
15 | 2-112th conducted their mission with courage, honor, great |
16 | competence and patriotic purpose, thereby reinforcing this |
17 | Commonwealth's pride in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard's |
18 | unique and outstanding Stryker Force; and |
19 | WHEREAS, This deployment was not without the supreme |
20 | sacrifice having been made by some of the members of the |
21 | 2-112th, who will not be returning with their fellow soldiers; |
22 | therefore be it |
23 | RESOLVED, That the Senate extend a hearty and grateful |
24 | "welcome home" from its deployment to Iraq, the 2-112th Infantry |
25 | Battalion (Stryker), 56th Brigade (Stryker), 28th Infantry |
26 | Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. |
