A RESOLUTION

Honoring perianesthesia nurses and designating the week of

2

February 1 through 7, 2010, as "PeriAnesthesia Nurse

3

Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

4

WHEREAS, There are more than 57,000 perianesthesia registered

5

nurses in the United States whose interests are represented by

6

the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses; and

7

WHEREAS, Perianesthesia nurses practice in all phases of

8

preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, pain

9

management and special procedure areas; and

10

WHEREAS, The depth and breadth of the perianesthesia nursing

11

profession meets the varied and emerging health care needs of

12

the American population in a diversified range of environments;

13

and

14

WHEREAS, The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses

15

(ASPAN), as the representative for the perianesthesia nurses of

16

this country, strives to advance nursing practice through

17

education, research and standards; and

WHEREAS, Perianesthesia nursing has been established as

2

essential in the quality of health care and safety of patients

3

in the hospital and ambulatory surgery settings; and

4

WHEREAS, The demand for perianesthesia nurses will only

5

increase due to an aging American population, advances in

6

medicine that are prolonging life and the meteoric expansion of

7

home health care services; and

8

WHEREAS, The inestimable preeminent value of service and care

9

provided by perianesthesia nurses will be of paramount

10

importance to the American health care system; and

11

WHEREAS, ASPAN has declared the week of February 1 through 7,

12

2010, as "PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week" with the theme of

13

"Roots of Knowledge, Seeds of Transformation" in celebration of

14

the ways perianesthesia nurses strive to advance nursing

15

practices; therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the Senate ask all residents of this

17

Commonwealth to join in honoring the perianesthesia nurses who

18

care so unselfishly and proficiently for us all; and be it

19

further

20

RESOLVED, That the Senate honor perianesthesia nurses and

21

designate the week of February 1 through 7, 2010, as

22

"PeriAnesthesia Nurse Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
