A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of June 9 through 15, 2012, as "State

Veterans' Homes Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The history of our nation reflects the memories of

4

the men and women who have endeavored to preserve our freedom,

5

whose task, while indescribable in terms of sacrifice and

6

commitment, stands as a lasting tribute to the ideals we value

7

as Americans; and

8

WHEREAS, These heroes, every man and woman, relinquished a

9

part of their lives in defense of the United States, and their

10

struggle will never be forgotten, overlooked or underestimated;

11

and

12

WHEREAS, Those who served this nation in the United States

13

Armed Forces forever carry the virtues of liberty, freedom and

14

the right to independence, and we, as citizens of the United

15

States of America, owe an inexpressible debt to these men and

16

women, and we take time to thank each of these American heroes,

past and present; and

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has, for more than 100 years,

3

provided a home for these distinguished veterans in need; and

4

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania will continue to honor its veterans by

5

providing them with support; and

6

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania offers its veterans and their spouses

7

exceptional around-the-clock care through a network of six

8

extended-care facilities located in major population centers

9

throughout this Commonwealth; and

10

WHEREAS, These facilities, offering personal care, skilled

11

nursing care, domiciliary care and dementia care, rate

12

exceptionally high in patient satisfaction levels compared to

13

the national average; and

14

WHEREAS, This system is comprised of the Delaware Valley

15

Veterans' Home, the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center,

16

Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home, Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors

17

Home, Southeastern Veterans' Center and Southwestern Veterans'

18

Center; therefore be it

19

RESOLVED, That in recognition of our veterans and veterans'

20

homes, the Senate designate the week of June 9 through 15, 2012,

21

as "State Veterans' Homes Week" in Pennsylvania and encourage

22

all citizens to visit a State-supported home in Erie,

23

Hollidaysburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Scranton or Spring City

24

and thank these veterans and the personnel who serve them.
