A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of May 2010 as "Chastity Awareness Month"

2

in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Chastity promotes sexual self-control, self-esteem

4

and self-respect; and

5

WHEREAS, Chastity places sexual intercourse within the

6

context of marriage; and

7

WHEREAS, Teenage pregnancy outside of marriage is a

8

continuing problem in our society; and

9

WHEREAS, Each year, more than one million teenagers become

10

pregnant, a significant number of teenage mothers are unmarried

11

and a large number of them have dropped out of school; and

12

WHEREAS, Abstaining from sexual activity is the only certain

13

way to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted

14

diseases and related emotional trauma; and

15

WHEREAS, Chastity Day presentations have been delivered for

16

numerous schools and youth groups, with attendance of more than

17

30,000 participants; and

18

WHEREAS, Chastity education emphasizes the powerful effect

that alcohol and drug use have in increasing vulnerability to

2

sexual advances and preventing good decision making; therefore

3

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2010 as

5

"Chastity Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania and encourage

6

participation in "Chastity Awareness Month" presentations for

7

schools and youth groups.
