| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the month of May 2010 as "Chastity Awareness Month" |
2 | in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Chastity promotes sexual self-control, self-esteem |
4 | and self-respect; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Chastity places sexual intercourse within the |
6 | context of marriage; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Teenage pregnancy outside of marriage is a |
8 | continuing problem in our society; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Each year, more than one million teenagers become |
10 | pregnant, a significant number of teenage mothers are unmarried |
11 | and a large number of them have dropped out of school; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Abstaining from sexual activity is the only certain |
13 | way to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted |
14 | diseases and related emotional trauma; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Chastity Day presentations have been delivered for |
16 | numerous schools and youth groups, with attendance of more than |
17 | 30,000 participants; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Chastity education emphasizes the powerful effect |

1 | that alcohol and drug use have in increasing vulnerability to |
2 | sexual advances and preventing good decision making; therefore |
3 | be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2010 as |
5 | "Chastity Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania and encourage |
6 | participation in "Chastity Awareness Month" presentations for |
7 | schools and youth groups. |
