| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing September 22, 2012, as "National Hunting and Fishing |
2 | Day." |
3 | WHEREAS, Because of the outstanding contributions that |
4 | America's hunters and anglers have made to conservation, |
5 | recreation and the economy, they are deserving of special |
6 | recognition; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Since the turn of the 20th century, hunters and |
8 | anglers have been the leaders in nearly all major conservation |
9 | programs, and these sportsmen-conservationists are responsible |
10 | for the founding of state fish and game departments in all 50 |
11 | states and for asking that sportsmen-conservationists be |
12 | required to buy licenses and that the money collected be used to |
13 | support state conservation agencies; and |
14 | WHEREAS, These sportsmen-financed programs have led to the |
15 | dramatic comeback of many species that appeared to be headed for |
16 | extinction at the turn of the 20th century, including the |
17 | restoration of the populations of white-tailed deer, elk, |
18 | antelope and wild turkey to the healthy and abundant numbers |

1 | they once enjoyed; and |
2 | WHEREAS, This year marks the 40th anniversary of Congress's |
3 | designation of a special day each year to acknowledge the |
4 | conservation accomplishments of hunters and anglers who |
5 | volunteer countless hours of their time for local conservation |
6 | projects and to raise funds for conservation; and |
7 | WHEREAS, September 22, 2012, has been designated as National |
8 | Hunting and Fishing Day; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Hunters and anglers should be commended for their |
10 | efforts on behalf of wildlife and for their contributions to |
11 | conservation; therefore be it |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize September 22, 2012, as |
13 | "National Hunting and Fishing Day." |
