A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the holiday beginning with Rosh Hashanah and

concluding with Yom Kippur.

WHEREAS, Sundown on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, is the

4

beginning of the Jewish New Year, 5771; and

5

WHEREAS, The holiday will begin with Rosh Hashanah and will

6

conclude with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, on September 18,

7

2010; and

8

WHEREAS, During this period of the High Holy Days, Jewish

9

residents of this Commonwealth will devote ten days to

10

repentance, asking God for forgiveness for their sins and

11

renewing their commitment to doing that which is right; and

12

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a large and vibrant Jewish

13

community that has made outstanding contributions to the

14

Commonwealth; therefore be it

15

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Pennsylvania join with the

16

Jewish community in celebrating the sound of the Shofar,

17

proclaiming the New Year and wishing the Jewish community
