A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO REQUIRE THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO MUTUALLY RETAIN A PRIVATE BUSINESS OR PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EXPERTS IN THE FIELD OF NUCLEAR ENERGY AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF NUCLEAR ENERGY FACILITIES TO AID THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN DETERMINING THE BEST MANNER IN WHICH THE STATE SHOULD SELL ITS MINORITY OWNERSHIP POSITION, HELD BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SERVICE AUTHORITY, IN THE V.C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    From funds appropriated by the General Assembly for this purpose, including the reimbursement of any approved accounts used for this purpose before the appropriation, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, after consultation with the Majority Leader and Minority Leader of each respective body, shall mutually retain a private business or private individuals who are experts in the field of nuclear energy and the construction of nuclear energy facilities. The experts must be retained to aid the General Assembly in determining the best manner in which the State should sell its minority ownership position, held by the South Carolina Public Service Authority, in the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Fairfield County, with the goal of selling the nuclear station in the most cost-efficient manner with the greatest return on investment to the State and its citizens. Also, the experts may make recommendations regarding the sale of the majority public utility ownership position. The experts must be retained until the State completes the sale of its interest in the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
