A house RESOLUTION

 

to recognize and honor Eleanor T. Shekitka on the special occasion of her one HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY and to wish her much happiness in the days ahead.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Eleanor T. Shekitka reached the tremendous milestone of her one hundredth birthday on Sunday, March 24, 2024; and

 

Whereas, Eleanor T. Shekitka, affectionately known as Ellie, was born on March 24, 1924, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. She was raised by her Polish grandmother after her mother passed away when Ellie was only two months old; and

 

Whereas, Ellie is the widow of a former World War II prisoner of war who retired from Shaw Air Force Base in 1963. She worked in the Officers' Club as the head cashier until her retirement in the nineties. She was also the ambassador for the clergy on the base; and

 

Whereas, Ellie is well traveled, having lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, Connecticut, Berlin, and Japan. She settled in Sumter after being stationed there and remained in Sumter after retiring. She is an avid singer and bingo player, and she finds much enjoyment in spending time with her family. She has three sons, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor Eleanor T. Shekitka for the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and to join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Eleanor T. Shekitka on the special occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her much happiness in the days ahead.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Eleanor T. Shekitka.
