A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE REVEREND DR. STANLEY R. FLOWERS, SENIOR PASTOR AT SAINT PHILLIP AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN EASTOVER, UPON COMPLETION OF A DOCTORAL DEGREE IN MINISTERIAL LEADERSHIP AND TO EXPRESS DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HIS SIGNIFICANT PASTORAL LEADERSHIP TO HIS CONGREGATION.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Reverend Dr. Stanley R. Flowers completed the requirements for a doctoral degree in ministerial leadership; and
Whereas, born in Monrovia, Liberia, Reverend Flowers was the second of six children and the oldest son; and
Whereas, he graduated from St. Samuel High School and earned an associate's degree from Monrovia Bible College; and
Whereas, called into ministry in May 1980, Reverend Flowers preached his initial sermon in August 1982 and was licensed to preach in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in 1983; and
Whereas, he served as an associate minister at Geda AME Church in Brewerville, Liberia, until 1986 under the leadership of Bishop Vernon R. Byrd, who appointed Reverend Flowers as pastor of Greene Memorial AME Church in Liberia; and
Whereas, upon Reverend Flowers' appointment to Greene Memorial, the congregation consisted of fifteen members, and within two years, the membership had grown to two hundred members; and
Whereas, he moved to the United States in 1988, enrolling at Allen University. While there, he served on the student council, was president of the International Student Council, and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; and
Whereas, Reverend Flowers earned a bachelor's degree in 1993 from Allen University with magna cum laude honors for a double major in psychology and sociology while working full time and pastoring; and
Whereas, he earned a master of divinity in 2013 from Payne Theological Seminary and a doctorate in ministerial leadership from Columbia International University on August 25, 2022; and
Whereas, Reverend Flowers currently serves as the senior pastor at Saint Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church in Eastover; and
Whereas, his favorite Scripture passage is found in Philippians 1:6 "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus," and his personal motto is "With God all things are possible." Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Reverend Dr. Stanley R. Flowers, senior pastor at Saint Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church in Eastover, upon completion of a doctoral degree in ministerial leadership and to express deep appreciation for his significant pastoral leadership to his congregation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Dr. Stanley R. Flowers.
