A house RESOLUTION

to EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF the Honorable Edward Byrd, Bishopville City Councilman, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Edward Byrd at the age of seventy-four. He was, affectionately known as "Byrd" or "Bum" to all his friends; and

Whereas, born in Bishopville on February 13, 1950, he served for some fifteen years as a supervisor in the street department with the City of Bishopville, and when he retired in 2015, he ran for a seat on city council; and

Whereas, dedicated to the City of Bishopville and its citizens, Mr. Byrd served on the City Council with the heart of a servant for more than eight years and as a firefighter with Bishopville's volunteer fire department; and

Whereas, like an artist, Mr. Byrd balanced a sense of humor with the seriousness to carry out his duties as a councilman. When tense conversations took hold of council meetings, Mr. Byrd knew how to lighten the mood with a good joke; and

Whereas, he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and community leader; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Edward Byrd and for the example of service and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of the Honorable Edward Byrd, Bishopville City Councilman, and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Edward Byrd.
