A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-33-35 SO AS TO PROVIDE SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGISTS EMPLOYED BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS OR CONTRACTED BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS THROUGH THIRD-PARTY VENDORS OR SERVICE PROVIDERS MAY PROVIDE SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY SERVICES FOR RELATED SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES IN THE DISTRICT WITHOUT HOLDING AN EDUCATOR CERTIFICATE OR CREDENTIAL.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 33, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

    "Section 59-33-35.    A speech-language pathologist employed by a school district or contracted by a school district through a third-party vendor or service provider and licensed under the provisions of Chapter 67, Title 40, is not required to hold an educator certificate or credential as a condition to providing speech-language pathology services for related special education services in the district under the provisions of this chapter."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval of the Governor.
