| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 322, Government Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 322.0195 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 322.0195. RECIDIVISM REPORT. (a) The board shall | ||
| prepare a biennial report on recidivism that includes rearrest and | ||
| reincarceration rates. The report must include: | ||
| (1) statewide rearrest and reincarceration rates for | ||
| individuals released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice | ||
| or the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; and | ||
| (2) rearrest and reincarceration rates for all | ||
| individuals for the following counties: | ||
| (A) Bexar; | ||
| (B) Collin; | ||
| (C) Dallas; | ||
| (D) Denton; | ||
| (E) El Paso; | ||
| (F) Fort Bend; | ||
| (G) Harris; | ||
| (H) Hidalgo; | ||
| (I) Tarrant; and | ||
| (J) Travis. | ||
| (b) In preparing the report, the board shall collaborate | ||
| with the Department of Public Safety and each sheriff. The | ||
| Department of Public Safety and each sheriff shall provide any | ||
| information requested by the board for the purpose of preparing the | ||
| report. | ||
| (c) The report may be included in any other report made by | ||
| the board. | ||
| (d) Not later than the last day of February of each | ||
| odd-numbered year, the board shall submit the report to the | ||
| governor, the lieutenant governor, and each member of the | ||
| legislature. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
