| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 1001.112, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | ||
| (a-1) The rules adopted under Subsection (a) must provide | ||
| that a person with 10 years of driving experience may conduct a | ||
| driver education course under this section in lieu of the parent, | ||
| stepparent, foster parent, legal guardian, grandparent, or | ||
| step-grandparent of an individual who is required to complete a | ||
| driver education course to obtain a Class C license, if the person | ||
| does not charge a fee for conducting the course and otherwise | ||
| qualifies to conduct a course under Subsection (a). | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
