relating to the authorization of certain industry professionals to | ||
provide instruction in public schools. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 21.0488 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 21.0488. CERTIFICATION FOR CERTAIN INDUSTRY | ||
PROFESSIONALS. (a) To ensure a sufficient number of qualified | ||
industry professionals authorized to provide instruction relating | ||
to curriculum required for an endorsement under Section | ||
28.025(c-1), the board shall propose rules providing for the | ||
expedited certification of persons with appropriate industry | ||
credentials. | ||
(b) The board's rules must permit a person to obtain | ||
certification under this section without completing an educator | ||
preparation program or performing successfully on a generally | ||
applicable certification examination. | ||
(c) A certificate issued under this section may not | ||
authorize the person to provide instruction to students in a | ||
subject area other than the area in which the person holds | ||
appropriate industry credentials. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
