BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. DEFINITIONS. In this Act: | ||
(1) "Department" means the Department of Public Safety | ||
of the State of Texas. | ||
(2) "Firearm" has the meaning assigned by Section | ||
46.01, Penal Code. | ||
SECTION 2. STUDY ON STOLEN FIREARMS. The department shall, | ||
using any available data, conduct a study to determine the extent to | ||
which stolen firearms have been used to commit offenses in this | ||
state since January 1, 1980. | ||
SECTION 3. REPORT. Not later than December 1, 2026, the | ||
department shall submit a report regarding the results of the study | ||
to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house | ||
of representatives, and each standing committee of the legislature | ||
with primary jurisdiction over criminal justice matters. | ||
SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires February 1, 2027. | ||
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September | ||
1, 2025. |
