be based on the total population of the state. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subtitle B, Title 3, Government Code, is amended | ||
by adding Chapter 319A to read as follows: | ||
CHAPTER 319A. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING | ||
Sec. 319A.001. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN BASED ON | ||
TOTAL POPULATION. The legislature must enact a redistricting plan | ||
for the election of the members of the United States House of | ||
Representatives elected from this state based on the total | ||
population of the state as ascertained by the most recent United | ||
States decennial census. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
