| relating to active shooter response training for peace officers, | ||
| including school district peace officers and school resource | ||
| officers. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 37.0812(a), Education Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (a) A school district peace officer or school resource | ||
| officer shall complete an active shooter response training program | ||
| approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as required | ||
| under Section 1701.271, Occupations Code. | ||
| SECTION 2. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 1701.271 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1701.271. ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE TRAINING PROGRAM. | ||
| (a) The commission shall approve a training program on appropriate | ||
| and effective law enforcement responses to an active shooter | ||
| situation. | ||
| (b) The commission, by rule, shall require each peace | ||
| officer to complete a course approved under Subsection (a) at least | ||
| once in each four-year period. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
