A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to active shooter response training for peace officers,
  including school district peace officers and school resource
  officers.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 37.0812(a), Education Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (a)  A school district peace officer or school resource
  officer shall complete an active shooter response training program
  approved by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as required
  under Section 1701.271, Occupations Code.
         SECTION 2.  Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is
  amended by adding Section 1701.271 to read as follows:
         Sec. 1701.271.  ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE TRAINING PROGRAM.
  (a) The commission shall approve a training program on appropriate
  and effective law enforcement responses to an active shooter
  situation. 
         (b)  The commission, by rule, shall require each peace
  officer to complete a course approved under Subsection (a) at least
  once in each four-year period.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
