| relating to requiring State Board of Education approval to offer | ||

| public high schools. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 28.0091. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVAL REQUIRED TO | ||
| OFFER CERTAIN COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES. (a) Notwithstanding Section | ||
| 28.009 or any other law, a school district may not offer an advanced | ||
| placement or international baccalaureate course unless the course | ||
| has been approved by the State Board of Education as a course that | ||
| sufficiently provides instruction in the essential knowledge and | ||
| skills appropriate to the subject and grade level of the course. | ||
| (b) The State Board of Education by rule shall establish | ||
| procedures for approving advanced placement and international | ||
| baccalaureate courses as provided by this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
