relating to requiring State Board of Education approval to offer | ||
advanced placement and international baccalaureate courses in | ||
public high schools. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 28.0091. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVAL REQUIRED TO | ||
OFFER CERTAIN COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES. (a) Notwithstanding Section | ||
28.009 or any other law, a school district may not offer an advanced | ||
placement or international baccalaureate course unless the course | ||
has been approved by the State Board of Education as a course that | ||
sufficiently provides instruction in the essential knowledge and | ||
skills appropriate to the subject and grade level of the course. | ||
(b) The State Board of Education by rule shall establish | ||
procedures for approving advanced placement and international | ||
baccalaureate courses as provided by this section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
