| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 8472, Special District | ||
| Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 8472.106 to read as | ||
| follows: | ||
| Sec. 8472.106. AUTONOMOUS MOTOR VEHICLES AUTHORIZED. (a) | ||
| In this section, "autonomous motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle | ||
| that uses autonomous technology to operate itself without the | ||
| active control or continuous monitoring of a person. | ||
| (b) Notwithstanding any other law, the district may own and | ||
| authorize the operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the | ||
| boundaries of the district as a means of public transportation. | ||
| (c) The district shall adopt regulations in coordination | ||
| with state, county, and other local officials that ensure the safe | ||
| operation of autonomous motor vehicles in the district. | ||
| SECTION 2. Subchapter C, Chapter 8473, Special District | ||
| Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 8473.106 to read as | ||
| follows: | ||

| SECTION 6. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
