relating to judges compensation to conduct marriage ceremonies in | ||
the State of Texas; creating a criminal offense. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section Sec. 2.202, Family Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
(e) A current judicial officeholder commits an offense if | ||
the person knowingly agrees to accept, directly or indirectly, | ||
overtly or covertly any remuneration in cash or in kind to or from | ||
another for conducting a marriage ceremony. An offense under this | ||
subsection is a Class B Misdemeanor. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
