A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to judges compensation to conduct marriage ceremonies in
  the State of Texas; creating a criminal offense.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section Sec. 2.202, Family Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
         (e)  A current judicial officeholder commits an offense if
  the person knowingly agrees to accept, directly or indirectly,
  overtly or covertly any remuneration in cash or in kind to or from
  another for conducting a marriage ceremony. An offense under this
  subsection is a Class B Misdemeanor.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
