A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into
  the electric grid facilities that use nuclear energy to generate
  electricity.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  STUDY.  The chancellor of The University of Texas
  System shall designate a department or entity at the university to
  conduct a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into the
  electric grid additional facilities that use nuclear energy to
  generate electricity, including a comparison of the costs and
  benefits of nuclear fusion reactors and nuclear fission reactors.
         SECTION 2.  REPORT.  The department or entity at The
  University of Texas System designated by the chancellor of the
  university system to conduct the study under Section 1 of this Act
  shall prepare a report with the conclusions of the study and submit
  the report to the legislature not later than September 1, 2024.
         SECTION 3.  EXPIRATION.  This Act expires December 1, 2024.
         SECTION 4.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act takes effect September
  1, 2023.
