A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
relating to the authority of the State Board of Dental Examiners to
  renew certain expired licenses.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Section 257.002(d-2), Occupations Code, is
  amended to read as follows:
(d-2)  The board may renew the license of a person whose
license has been expired for one year or more without requiring the
person to comply with the requirements and procedures for an
  original license if:
               (1)  the person places the person's renewed license on
retired status and confines the person's practice solely to
voluntary charity care under Section 256.102(f); or
               (2)  on written request by the person whose license has
expired, the board determines that extenuating circumstances and
good cause existed for the person's failure to timely renew the
  license.
SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies to the
renewal of a license that expires on or after the effective date of
this Act. A license that expires before the effective date of this
Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the license
expired, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
