| relating to the use of a political contribution to pay a civil | ||
| penalty or fine imposed by the Texas Ethics Commission. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 253.035, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: | ||
| (c-1) The prohibitions prescribed by Subsections (a) and | ||
| (b) include the personal use of a political contribution to pay a | ||
| civil penalty or fine imposed by the commission. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 253.035(c-1), Election Code, as added by | ||
| this Act, applies only to the payment of a civil penalty or fine | ||
| imposed by the Texas Ethics Commission on or after the effective | ||
| date of this Act. The payment of a civil penalty or fine imposed by | ||
| the Texas Ethics Commission before the effective date of this Act is | ||
| governed by the law in effect on the date the penalty or fine is | ||
| imposed, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
