BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 29.006, Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
Sec. 29.006. CONTINUING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) The | ||
governor shall appoint a continuing advisory committee, composed of | ||
17 members, under 20 U.S.C. Section 1412(a)(21). At least one | ||
member appointed under this subsection must be a director of | ||
special education programs for a school district or for a shared | ||
services arrangement of multiple school districts as provided by | ||
Section 29.007. | ||
(b) The appointments are not subject to confirmation by the | ||
senate. | ||
(c) Members of the committee are appointed for staggered | ||
terms of four years with the terms of eight or nine members expiring | ||
on February 1 of each odd-numbered year. | ||
SECTION 2. Not later than February 1, 2013, the governor | ||
shall appoint a member to the continuing advisory committee as | ||
necessary to ensure that the composition of the committee complies | ||
with Section 29.006, Education Code, as amended by this Act. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
