A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the qualifications for counselors for battering
  intervention and prevention programs in certain counties.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 5, Article 42.141, Code of Criminal
  Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
         (d)  A person who provides direct battering intervention
  counseling services to a batterer for a program located in a county
  with a population of more than 50,000 must be licensed as a social
  worker, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or
  psychologist or a licensed physician who is board certified in
  psychiatry.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect January 1, 2014.
