WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
of Cecil Alvis Staples of Palestine, who passed away on November 16, | ||
2010, at the age of 77; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Anderson County on March 23, 1933, to Claude | ||
and Georgia Martin Staples, Cecil Staples worked in logging camps | ||
in East Texas when he was young and later served in the U.S. Army; he | ||
was employed by the Glass Containers Corporation for 36 years, and | ||
he was president of Local 90 of the Glass Bottle Blowers' | ||
Association for more than two decades; and | ||
WHEREAS, This hardworking Texan also ran a cattle operation | ||
and a tree service for many years, living his childhood dream of | ||
owning land and livestock; in 1984, he opened Staples Greenhouse in | ||
Palestine with his twin brother, Chester, and the pair managed the | ||
business until 2002; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of strong faith, Mr. Staples was a longtime | ||
member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a | ||
Sunday school teacher and a deacon; in all of his endeavors, he | ||
enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Carol Wooten Staples, and | ||
together they welcomed into their family five children, Cecil, | ||
Brenda, Todd, Julie, and Candice, as well as numerous grandchildren | ||
and great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Cecil Staples will | ||
long be remembered with great fondness and affection by all those | ||
who were privileged to share in the richness of his life; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Cecil Alvis Staples | ||
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his | ||
wife of 56 years, Carol Wooten Staples; to his children, Cecil A. | ||
Staples and his wife, Dana, Brenda Boyd, Texas Agriculture | ||
Commissioner Todd Staples and his wife, Janet, and Julie Staples; | ||
to his grandchildren, Kyle Blanton and his wife, Jennifer, Grant | ||
Staples, Scott Staples, Jordan Staples, Jason Boyd and his wife, | ||
Emily, Alexandra Naismith and her husband, Clint, Jared Staples, | ||
Elizabeth Staples, Brian Thorn and his wife, Jamie, and Jonathan | ||
Thorn and his wife, Toni; to his three great-grandchildren; to his | ||
brother, Chester Staples; to his sister, Theresa Spitchley; to his | ||
nieces and nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil Alvis | ||
Staples. | ||
