WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff of Elm Grove Elementary | ||
School in Buda opened their doors to the community on March 1, 2013, | ||
to celebrate and share Leadership Day; and | ||
WHEREAS, This special event provided area residents with the | ||
unique opportunity to personally experience Elm Grove's new | ||
program, The Leader in Me, through student presentations and | ||
interactive open-house classrooms; and | ||
WHEREAS, Based on Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly | ||
Effective People, The Leader in Me process builds skills to help | ||
students become successful learners and active leaders in the 21st | ||
century; qualities such as taking responsibility, working with a | ||
team, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution are | ||
continually reinforced through the curriculum and daily classroom | ||
routines; and | ||
WHEREAS, After earning a grant from the Franklin Covey | ||
Foundation, Elm Grove administrators, educators, and staff members | ||
participated in a three-day workshop on Covey's seven habits; | ||
students were introduced to these concepts during the 2011-2012 | ||
school year and full implementation of the program began during | ||
2012-2013, with the goal of achieving recognition as an exemplary | ||
program, or "Lighthouse Campus," in approximately three years; and | ||
WHEREAS, By using this innovative and comprehensive learning | ||
technique, Elm Grove Elementary has enriched the lives of many | ||
young Texans and has equipped them with the tools they need to | ||
become engaged and productive citizens of the Lone Star State; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commend Elm Grove Elementary School for its | ||
leadership program and extend to the school's students, faculty, | ||
and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
