R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Residents of La Porte are gathering together for the
  2017 National Night Out Against Crime; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch,
  this annual event provides an opportunity for Texans to join forces
  with individuals in thousands of other towns and cities across the
  country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, neighborhoods host cookouts, parades,
  flashlight walks, and other activities for National Night Out,
  helping to build community cohesiveness, strengthen relations
  between residents and local police, and increase awareness of
  anticrime strategies while sending a message of solidarity to
  would-be criminals; and
         WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and
  violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night
  Out observances, Texans affirm their commitment to making their
  communities stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the 2017 National Night Out Against
  Crime in La Porte as an essential crime prevention event and commend
  all those involved in this vital endeavor.
