| WHEREAS, Residents of La Porte are gathering together for the | ||
| 2017 National Night Out Against Crime; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, | ||
| this annual event provides an opportunity for Texans to join forces | ||
| with individuals in thousands of other towns and cities across the | ||
| country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Each year, neighborhoods host cookouts, parades, | ||
| flashlight walks, and other activities for National Night Out, | ||
| helping to build community cohesiveness, strengthen relations | ||
| between residents and local police, and increase awareness of | ||
| anticrime strategies while sending a message of solidarity to | ||
| would-be criminals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and | ||
| violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night | ||
| Out observances, Texans affirm their commitment to making their | ||
| communities stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby recognize the 2017 National Night Out Against | ||
| Crime in La Porte as an essential crime prevention event and commend | ||
| all those involved in this vital endeavor. | ||
