||
WHEREAS, The Center for Public Policy Priorities in Austin is
celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011; and
WHEREAS, CPPP evolved from the Benedictine Resource Center,
which was founded by the Congregation of Benedictine Sisters in the
mid-1980s in Boerne; the group opened an Austin office to examine
health care issues, and eventually that location became a
broad-based policy research center, adopting its current name in
1991 and becoming a 501(c)(3) organization in 1999; and
WHEREAS, While continuing its work on health care, CPPP today
is dedicated to changing public policy for the benefit of low- and
moderate-income Texans, with an emphasis on improving nutrition,
the state's workforce, economic development, and child well-being;
the organization pursues its goals through a combination of
research, analysis, education, and communication, and through the
years, it has achieved a variety of successes, with numerous state
initiatives and policies growing directly out of its solutions and
proposals; and | ||
WHEREAS, CPPP is also distinguished as the Texas home to KIDS
COUNT, a state-by-state and county-by-county effort to track and
address the needs of children, and it is part of other national
efforts such as the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative and the
Economic Analysis and Research Network; and
WHEREAS, Focused solely on evaluating public policy as it
affects the least fortunate Texans, CPPP serves as a vital
nonpartisan resource for leaders, policymakers, citizens, and
organizations across the state, and it is indeed fitting to
recognize the center on the occasion of this milestone year; now,
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Center for Public
Policy Priorities on its 25th anniversary and extend to all those
affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued
success with their important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for CPPP as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
of Representatives. | ||
