| WHEREAS, The Center for Public Policy Priorities in Austin is | ||
| celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, CPPP evolved from the Benedictine Resource Center, | ||
| which was founded by the Congregation of Benedictine Sisters in the | ||
| mid-1980s in Boerne; the group opened an Austin office to examine | ||
| health care issues, and eventually that location became a | ||
| broad-based policy research center, adopting its current name in | ||
| 1991 and becoming a 501(c)(3) organization in 1999; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While continuing its work on health care, CPPP today | ||
| is dedicated to changing public policy for the benefit of low- and | ||
| moderate-income Texans, with an emphasis on improving nutrition, | ||
| the state's workforce, economic development, and child well-being; | ||
| the organization pursues its goals through a combination of | ||
| research, analysis, education, and communication, and through the | ||
| years, it has achieved a variety of successes, with numerous state | ||
| initiatives and policies growing directly out of its solutions and | ||
| proposals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, CPPP is also distinguished as the Texas home to KIDS | ||
| COUNT, a state-by-state and county-by-county effort to track and | ||
| address the needs of children, and it is part of other national | ||
| efforts such as the State Fiscal Analysis Initiative and the | ||
| Economic Analysis and Research Network; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Focused solely on evaluating public policy as it | ||
| affects the least fortunate Texans, CPPP serves as a vital | ||
| nonpartisan resource for leaders, policymakers, citizens, and | ||
| organizations across the state, and it is indeed fitting to | ||
| recognize the center on the occasion of this milestone year; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the Center for Public | ||
| Policy Priorities on its 25th anniversary and extend to all those | ||
| affiliated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| success with their important work; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for CPPP as an expression of high regard by the Texas House | ||
| of Representatives. | ||
