WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the | ||
passing of Rebecca Anne Elliott McKenzie of Victoria on April 5, | ||
2023, at the age of 81; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Arvle and Anita Elliott, Rebecca | ||
McKenzie was born in Bowie on September 6, 1941, and she grew up | ||
with the companionship of her brother, Stanley; she went on to | ||
graduate from high school in Edna, and she earned a bachelor's | ||
degree in elementary education from Texas Tech University in 1963; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. McKenzie subsequently began teaching | ||
kindergarten at Juan Linn Elementary in Victoria, and following a | ||
long and rewarding career as an educator, she eventually retired | ||
from Rowland Elementary School; and | ||
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. McKenzie gave | ||
generously of her time and talents to a number of organizations, | ||
including The Texas Zoo, the Junior League of Victoria, the | ||
Children's Discovery Museum, and Twice Blessed Showroom; | ||
furthermore, she was a valued member of First United Methodist | ||
Church; in her leisure time, she was a gifted artist who specialized | ||
in watercolors, and she also enjoyed reading good books and | ||
spending time with her family and friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. McKenzie shared a fulfilling marriage with her | ||
husband, Kenneth, and she was the devoted mother of two children, | ||
Catherine and Scott; with the passing years, she had the privilege | ||
of watching her family grow to include three grandchildren, Zen, | ||
Charlie, and Cooper; and | ||
WHEREAS, Admired for her warm and caring nature and radiant | ||
smile, Rebecca McKenzie brightened the world for all who knew her, | ||
and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rebecca Anne | ||
Elliott McKenzie and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of | ||
her family: to her husband, Kenneth McKenzie; to her daughter, | ||
Catherine McKenzie; to her son, K. Scott McKenzie, and his wife, | ||
Jennifer; to her brother, A. Stanley Elliott, and his wife, Gale; to | ||
her grandchildren, Zen, Charlie, and Cooper McKenzie; and to her | ||
other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rebecca | ||
McKenzie. |
