| WHEREAS, The mock trial team from Midway High School took | ||
| second place at the 2015 Region 12 High School Mock Trial | ||
| Competition, held February 10-12 in Waco; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Facing off against the top area squads, the students | ||
| from Midway High demonstrated a keen knowledge of the facts and | ||
| intricate details of their assigned case while arguing before | ||
| judges and lawyers at the Baylor Law School and the McLennan County | ||
| Courthouse; the team defeated West High School in the semifinals to | ||
| advance to the final round, where they ultimately fell short of the | ||
| regional title to Live Oak Classical School; and | ||
| WHEREAS, With its runner-up finish, the team advanced to the | ||
| Texas High School Mock Trial Competition in Dallas for the second | ||
| consecutive year; there, Midway continued to perform well, narrowly | ||
| missing out on the semifinals and finishing in fifth place overall | ||
| out of 28 teams; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The members of the 2015 team are Hannah Johnson, | ||
| Katy Lou Neilson, Mollie Deaconson, M. J. Morris, Sami Landon, | ||
| Matthew Parsons, Ben Barker, Anthony Hejduk, Sam Richards, and | ||
| Riley Gardell; they were ably supported by faculty sponsor Kim | ||
| Landon and attorney advisor David Deaconson; and | ||
| WHEREAS, These fine young Texans have shown great | ||
| determination and skill, and they may indeed look forward to a | ||
| future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend the Midway High School mock trial team | ||
| on its participation in the Region 12 and state mock trial | ||
| competitions and extend to the team's members sincere best wishes | ||
| for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
