| WHEREAS, A delegation from Ed White Memorial High School in | ||
| League City is visiting the State Capitol on May 4, 2011, and this | ||
| occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor the school and its | ||
| parent organization, Bay Area Charter Schools; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Bay Area Charter Schools is a nonprofit, | ||
| open-enrollment charter school community that serves 19 | ||
| independent school districts in the Galveston Bay area; its mission | ||
| is to foster the excitement of learning through an interactive | ||
| educational environment that values the gifts and talents of every | ||
| child and to encourage cooperation among students, parents, and the | ||
| community, and its schools are guided by the principle that | ||
| students learn best in project-based environments that focus on | ||
| real-world applications; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Named in honor of the NASA astronaut, Ed White | ||
| Memorial High School opened its doors in 1998; its classes are | ||
| limited in size to 25 students, and the school is designed to | ||
| address the individual needs of the students through a personalized | ||
| curriculum; Ed White Memorial also features advanced placement and | ||
| career and technology courses, online learning opportunities, and | ||
| dual-enrollment courses offered in conjunction with College of the | ||
| Mainland; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Committed to its innovative, high-quality system of | ||
| education, Bay Area Charter Schools is helping its students succeed | ||
| academically and realize their full potential, and in so doing, it | ||
| is building a solid foundation for the future achievement of many | ||
| young Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Bay Area Charter Schools and extend a warm | ||
| welcome to the representatives from Ed White Memorial High School | ||
| who are present at the State Capitol today; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Bay Area Charter Schools as an expression of high | ||
| regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
