WHEREAS, David G. Hinojosa is stepping down as Southwest | ||
regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and | ||
Educational Fund in 2015, after an outstanding tenure of more than a | ||
decade with that organization; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since joining MALDEF in 2003, Mr. Hinojosa has | ||
gained recognition as one of its most effective litigators, | ||
particularly in the area of education; he has worked on issues | ||
related to public school finance, the provision of adequate | ||
education for low-income, special education, and English Learner | ||
students, and the equitable and inclusive treatment of public | ||
schoolchildren; he has also sought to protect access to higher | ||
education and to defend the rights of workers and military | ||
veterans; and | ||
WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney has provided expert | ||
testimony to local and state governmental bodies, and he has | ||
contributed chapters on the subject of school finance to two books, | ||
one of which is forthcoming from Harvard Education Press; in | ||
addition, he has presented at more than 75 local, state, and | ||
national conferences, lectured at universities and law schools | ||
around the country, and participated in numerous roundtables; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Hinojosa earned his | ||
bachelor's degree with honors from New Mexico State University and | ||
his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law in | ||
2000; he previously served as an air traffic controller in the | ||
U.S. Air Force for nearly eight years and was honored with several | ||
military awards; and | ||
WHEREAS, David Hinojosa has worked tirelessly to advance the | ||
cause of social justice, and his commitment to creating a society of | ||
greater fairness and opportunity is a source of continuing | ||
inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby honor David G. Hinojosa for his achievements as | ||
Southwest regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense | ||
and Educational Fund and extend to him sincere best wishes for the | ||
future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
