| WHEREAS, David G. Hinojosa is stepping down as Southwest | ||
| regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and | ||
| Educational Fund in 2015, after an outstanding tenure of more than a | ||
| decade with that organization; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since joining MALDEF in 2003, Mr. Hinojosa has | ||
| gained recognition as one of its most effective litigators, | ||
| particularly in the area of education; he has worked on issues | ||
| related to public school finance, the provision of adequate | ||
| education for low-income, special education, and English Learner | ||
| students, and the equitable and inclusive treatment of public | ||
| schoolchildren; he has also sought to protect access to higher | ||
| education and to defend the rights of workers and military | ||
| veterans; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney has provided expert | ||
| testimony to local and state governmental bodies, and he has | ||
| contributed chapters on the subject of school finance to two books, | ||
| one of which is forthcoming from Harvard Education Press; in | ||
| addition, he has presented at more than 75 local, state, and | ||
| national conferences, lectured at universities and law schools | ||
| around the country, and participated in numerous roundtables; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Hinojosa earned his | ||
| bachelor's degree with honors from New Mexico State University and | ||
| his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law in | ||
| 2000; he previously served as an air traffic controller in the | ||
| U.S. Air Force for nearly eight years and was honored with several | ||
| military awards; and | ||
| WHEREAS, David Hinojosa has worked tirelessly to advance the | ||
| cause of social justice, and his commitment to creating a society of | ||
| greater fairness and opportunity is a source of continuing | ||
| inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor David G. Hinojosa for his achievements as | ||
| Southwest regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense | ||
| and Educational Fund and extend to him sincere best wishes for the | ||
| future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
