R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Evelyn Barnett has served with distinction as
Democratic Party precinct chair of Precinct 2050 in Fort Bend
County for the past 42 years; and
WHEREAS, Precinct chairs are integral to the success of their
party's mission to elect public servants who will build a better
state and nation for today's citizenry and for generations to come;
they represent their precinct on the County Executive Committee,
bridge the gap between voters and elected officials, and serve as a
point of contact for the Democratic Party on the local level; and
WHEREAS, Because public policy affects our daily lives,
individuals must exercise their right to vote, and precinct chairs
play an important role in the election process; their efforts to
inspire voters to support their party's candidates are part of a
proud and vital political tradition; and
WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that we take this opportunity
to recognize an outstanding Texan who has distinguished herself as
the longest continuously serving Democratic Party precinct chair in
the history of the county, having devoted more than four decades of
her life to such party goals as achieving economic equality,
ensuring an affordable college education, and advancing a more just
and inclusive society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Evelyn Barnett for her 42 years of
service as Democratic Party precinct chair of Precinct 2050 in Fort
Bend County and extend to this dedicated community leader sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Barnett as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
