R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Cross Timbers Elementary School in the Azle
Independent School District has been named a 2016 National Blue
Ribbon School; and
WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created
by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses
that have demonstrated overall academic excellence or made notable
progress in improving outcomes among disadvantaged students; Cross
Timbers was one of only 330 schools nationwide and one of 26 public
schools in Texas to earn this impressive honor in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Opened in 1998, Cross Timbers Elementary currently
serves more than 500 children in early education programs through
the fourth grade; this diverse campus community includes a number
of students from outside the Azle city limits, and a significant
percentage of the school population qualifies for free or
reduced-price meals; and
WHEREAS, Under the skilled leadership of principal Dee
Gilley, the exceptional Cross Timbers faculty and staff go above
and beyond to help each student succeed, offering a variety of
morning enrichment and tutoring opportunities; through the Grand
Central Station program, specially trained teachers provide
additional support to pupils whose average grades in a given
subject have fallen below 75 percent, ensuring that all students
master the area that is causing them difficulty and so are able to
keep up with the material being presented in class; moreover, the
school's peer tutoring program fosters a collaborative
environment, and student progress in academics, attendance, and
trustworthiness is recognized every six weeks at a schoolwide
awards ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Through their hard work and commitment to
excellence, the students, teachers, and staff of Cross Timbers
Elementary have built an outstanding record of scholastic
achievement, and they may take great pride in having garnered the
Blue Ribbon designation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Cross Timbers Elementary School on
its selection as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School and extend to
all those associated with this campus sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
